All In London Review
A pub that many have probably stumbled on and then no doubt returned to.
Given its location, the Queen’s Arms would have to do a lot wrong to defeat itself. Thankfully it doesn’t. It leaves the cobbled mews and surrounding grandeur to support its simple dark wood, white walls and adds a touch of style with its eggshell blue façade.
Like the classic Kensington class the pub strives for with its décor, there’s a similarly familiar type of tradition attached to the food menu. It’s a roll call of the most-loved dishes that no pub can go wrong with, so meet fish and chips, sausage and mash, pies and burgers. On the other hand, the drinks menu is all about the new. Someone must have left the comfortable confines of South Kensington and gone slumming it in one of London’s less salubrious neighbourhoods to discover that the legends of the craft beer were all true. And then brought them here. On our visit we found an impressive collection that included Brooklyn Pennant Ale, Camden’s Indian Summer Lager (a particularly delicious, robust 6.2%), Sierra Nevada and Lagunitas IPA. Of course, there were spirits and wine too but the beer selection was unusually good. Which, along with the fine location, means that the Queen’s Arms is a pub that will not be stumbled upon again but sought out instead.
