Libertine

If you disappear down a side street and wander away from London Bridge and Borough then you’ll find that this area of town isn’t all overrun with undiscerning crowds looking for whatever they can find. There are local gems spread through the quiet streets and The Libertine is one of our new favourites.

Located on Great Suffolk Street, the Libertine is one of those pubs you stumble across, head inside and see everything fit into place. There is superb stone baked pizza let loose from the kitchen, an interesting range of beers from indie breweries behind the bar and there is even that most rare of sights - a dartboard.

Spacious enough to deal with its popularity, the pub attracts a mix of students (who get cheap pizzas from Monday to Wednesday), local workers and those with a nose for a good local. If darts aren’t enough for you in terms of entertainment then turn up on Sunday evenings for live jazz or check the Libertine listings for a bigger night. The pub hosts the Hipsters Don’t Dance House Party now and then, which we can personally attest to being a fine night to prove that even if hipsters don’t dance, you do.

Next time you’re looking for a pub without the raging crowds that Borough seems to inspire, head south and look for the Libertine: for darts, for pizza and room to sit down.
