Jolly Gardener

Great pub. Fun atmosphere. Quirky events throughour the year (e.g. Carabean Christmas during December with cocktails and a steel drum band! Many funky DJ nights during the evening). Food is good but is very much of the gastro pub varity/price. Good selection of lagers, does not really cater for real ales. Very much of a 'night out' venue during the evening, but quieter and more relaxing during the day.

This used to be a real local with brilliant staff. Since the end of 2006 a new manager destroyed all that. It's badly run (if at all), the service is awful, particularly at weekends. Gimmicks include boared games and sock monkey making. If you have the brain of a two year old, you'll love it.
Avoid. Mitchell & Butler must be keen to get rid of it.

I really couldn't advise you strongly enough to find somewhere else to spend your hard earned cash and free time. We had a group lunch at the Jolly Gardener yesterday. We waited 1 Hour 15 minutes for our food and this seemed to be the norm. The waitresses response was "what do you expect when everyone orders at the same time" as if Sunday lunch was a surprise. The staff were rude, the food was terrible and unsurprisingly cold. The tables were filthy. The toilets were disgusting and seemed like they hadn't been cleaned for months.I ended up leaving early as the longer I stayed, the more annoyed I became.

Love this place, its my local and i would reccomend it to anyone on any night of the week. Its a cosy country like pub with a retro arty edge. Yummy food to!
