The Old Cinema is a picture palace dating from the 1890s which has been refurbished to become London's only antiques department store. Over 2,000 pieces of genuine antique furniture in showroom condition and available for immediate delivery are on view. Classic items at The Old Cinema include Victorian extending dining tables, 19th century bookcases, genuine antique desks and a large selection of bedroom furniture from early Georgian to Art Nouveau.

Hone those haggling skills and get hunting...

Picture the scene; all you need to set off your perfect home space is an original walk/don’t walk Paris street light. Where do you go? You haul yourself to Chiswick and The Old Cinema, of course. This former parachute factory (and old cinema) now hosts a variety of antique dealers selling homeware from any time in the past hundred years. Steam punk, art deco, Americana… it’s all there.

Every home needs a bit of furniture (otherwise it's just, like, a box)

The Old Cinema is a great place to search for one-of-a-kind furniture. Like Aria, it is a department store, only this Chiswick emporium deals almost solely in secondhand, vintage and antiques. Spread across multiple floors, you’ll find styles that represent every decade of the last sixty years – at least. Prices range and bartering is always an option.

Apparently this was once an old parachute making factory but since it was also an old cinema that got the nod for the shop's title. So there you go.

Having travelled to Chiswick specifically to see this antique emporium I wasn't disappointed. It's split into several huge areas over a few different levels and works as a kind of department store of vintage. Mirrors, old Americana, retro signs, lighting, furniture. It's unlikely you'll leave here without buying something - if you have the money, of course.

Buyers beware! The level of service and in particular after-sale service is appalling. The management have little control over the staff of the store so if you manage to negotiate a deal on a sale and then have a problem with your purchase do not expect any understanding as apparently they didn't have the authority to authorise a discount so you should just be happy with your lot. They use an external delivery comapny who will demand payment for delivery even when they fail to deliver a purchase. All round bad customer experience and with the wealth of great antique and retro furniture stores available in London I would give this one a wide berth.
