Yesterday I bought a second-hand Viking Kendal ladies bike for £195 from Recycling. They offered me £30 for my old bike, which I negotiated up to £35, though it was worth more. Today, I have found the same Viking Kendal ladies bike NEW for £148.99 online (bikes2udirect). I feel ripped off.

I am sorry that I can not write a positive review to balance the negative comments here.

I bought a folding bike from Recycling a month ago, after my previous bike was stolen. Immediately, a problem with the chain became apparent with it falling off regularly at gear changes. I had to take the bike back three times to get this fixed. Sometimes, staff were polite, often they were rude. They never apologised for not fixing it first time round, or for putting my life at risk with an unsafe bike.

They also refused to replace the very worn and too big front tyre.

Sadly, this Saturday I discovered a huge crack in the frame. My partner took the bike back today and asked that they repair or replace the cracked section of frame. A refund was offered, but by cheque and i have to wait 28 days. I paid cash. They said I was told about the 28 day refund policy when I bought it. I was not.

Again, there has been no apology for selling me a death trap, or for the inconvenience of having to continually return it and the cost of using public transport whilst it was being fixed.

I'm disappointed as my previous bike was satisfactorily serviced by Recycling in August. I recommend you go elsewhere to buy a bike.

They took a load of money (£115) for a bike service-- and then the bike wasn't ready on the day they promised it would be. The next day we came again, v inconvenienced by the whole thing, and the bike was again not ready.
The manageress was cold and hostile, just about managed to hiss an apology, told me effectively so what if we needed the bike, and even if we canceled the service we'd have to fill in a load of forms and wait twenty eight days.

Warning- never ever go there!

Recycling used to have a good reputation, but has gone rapidly downhill since it changed hands a couple of years ago. Not only are the staff routinely rude and patronising, but the brand new bike they sold me turned out to be a death trap when numerous spokes in the back wheel snapped while I was in traffic. Recycling refused to accept liability for the faulty good they sold me and their 'mechanic' tried to make out that the problem was my fault. They did offer discount on the repair, but I wouldn't give this bunch of crooks another penny. It's a shame, but Recycling has become a place to avoid.

The bikes are sold as refurbished but I can't see how - the brake blocks on mine could have been the original supplied in the Raleigh factory 23 years ago, and nothing else seemed to have been replaced or upgraded.

I bought a second hand bike here on impulse. They're very expensive but have a 'no lemons' policy which means if you don't like your bike you can take it back and swap it for another one. I did this twice and settled on the third bike.

All was kind of ok - I upgraded the brakes so that I could actually stop (important in London) and got used to the bike's 'quirks', which are to be expected on a vintage machine.

Now it's out of the 4 week period and it's falling apart. I took it in for a repair (which they made me pay for) and it went wrong again within a few miles.

I'm not impressed and would urge people to shop around, or at least shop somewhere with a good reputation. Some bike shops are booked weeks in advance for repairs, others you can just go in whenever suits you. This is the second type of bike repair shop, if you know what I mean :(
