In August 2015 it was five years since Drink, Shop & Do opened its doors to bring a new type of informal all-day entertainment to Kings Cross. Since its ambitious beginnings its appeal has spread from Kings Cross to the rest of London, it’s appeal lying in the action and games that go along with the drinking, which remains so atypical of British bars.
Spread across two floors and combining a café, bar, shop and basement club, DSD (Drink, Shop & Do) is a little bit of everything. But where this might end up feeling like things are spread a little thin, not so in the Kings Cross venue. Come on a Friday or Saturday night and you can expect to find the basement rocking – and there’s nothing surprising about that. However, turn up on a lean Tuesday night in February and you’re just as likely to find the place rammed thanks to its innovative events diary. From quizzing to Beyonce dance classes, Lego robot building to vintage hair, make-up and papier mache monster design to knitting workshops, there isn’t a lot in the way of far out entertainment that DSD haven’t thought of hosting. (Our personal favourite is "Lionel Richtea" - where you get to ice an image of the crooner's face onto a biccy.) When drinking cocktails, craft beers and fine coffee isn’t enough, the ‘do’ aspect is the perfect accompaniment for jaded Londoners who want something a little different.
We don’t need to tell you that this is one of the best places in London to take a date – or anyone else for that matter. DSD fans are unashamedly obsessed with the place and having only been twice we can kind of see why.
