When you take a wrong turn from either Islington’s Essex Road or Hackney’s Kingsland Road, the chances are you might end up in the leafy enclave of De Beauvoir. But is it as posh as it sounds? Yes, pretty much. And in a picturesque spot like this there’s no chance the locals are going to make do without a deli stocking artisan foodstuffs right on the doorstep.
Located just north of De Beauvoir Square, the deli also acts as a coffee shop. Somehow, despite cramming the space with an eclectic range of gourmet products there is still enough room for a coffee counter and some indoor and outdoor seating, which is great if you’re into perving over food…
Stocking meats, cheeses, breads and all the delicatessen classics you would imagine (jarred pickles, pasta, fruit, handmade chocolates, cake etc.) the De Beauvoir Deli is the area’s go-to shop for what I like to call ‘occasion snacks’. For instance, do you have a friend coming round for an afternoon coffee? Occasion snacks. Fancy treating your beau to some delightful gourmet tea and cake? Occasion snacks. Got the boys coming round for football night? Get fine cured meats - get occasion snacks. See what I mean? It just works.
Decorated with a checkered tiled floor, painted blue window frames and food piles as installations, a visit is a pleasure even before you get to sample the food and drink.
