Dawson & Briant

The service here really is awful. They are rude and their attitude is just baffling. They behave as if your requests (e.g. 'I'd like to add a charm to this charm bracelet') are ridiculous. It's as if they don't want to sell you anything.

I do not recommend Dawson & Briant. I took my watch in on 10 September to have the strap replaced, and on 24 September it broke -- my watch fell to the ground while I was cycling, and it got run over.

The bloke behind the counter told me there is a pin connecting the strap to the watch, and I must have broken it by pulling too hard -- but I find that very suspicious, as I've had the watch for four years and it only broke after being "repaired" by Dawson & Briant. They were very unfriendly and refused to refund the cost of the strap repair. (I was also unimpressed when he said that the pins cost 20p each to buy, but Dawson & Briant charges £3 with a strap, or £5 on their own.)

I visited this jeweller during July 09. I took with me a number of gold items which I wanted to sell (not pawn). I had already received an offer of £200 at Grays Antique Market but wanted to shop as I knew that I could obtain a scrap price of greater than £200 (some of the items had reasonable stones (diamonds) in them). The jeweller weighed the items and came back to me with an offer of £139. He obviously wasn't going to pay anything at all for the stones .... I said that wasn't even the scrap price at which point he told me to "go where I could get a better price". I told him I would! Hardly a positive encounter. BTW, I eventually sold the items for over £300 scrap price at Hatton Garden Metals - where I had received really good prices before for items without stones. They use the day's listed gold and silver fix prices and pay direct into your bank account. Look them up on the web. My advice: don't bother with Dawson and Briant!!
