After spending a whole day washing, I came in about 20.55 and put £2 in the middle dryer & £3 in the end dryer nearest the door.. The proprietor came in just after 9pm wearing a mask & promptly got his hoover out, which boded ill. I hoped he would do his usual cleaning routine of the machines & then the floor but instead he open the dust door under the dryer next to mine (not even the far end one furthest from the door & at least 1 dryer away from the middle one), & proceeded to hoover the combustible dust collected there from the dryers use..I protested, but he carried on, saying there would be no movement of dust because he was running the dryer at the same time to suck it back in. I was sitting just over 2metres away wearing a mask & could not only smell the dust as it was disturbed but could taste it too thro my mask. He had the sense to put a dust mask over his mask because he knew the disturbed dust piles would be all over the place. I knew I would have to wash the clothes again in the middle dryer because it was right next to the one he was removing the dust from. The last time he did this to me He had removed the dust from 3 dryers & just taken the cover off on the dryer next to mine, when I protested & asked him not to start raising the dust right next to my drying clothes & the dry clothes I had in my basket. ( Even just removing the dust door, allows a whoosh of air into the dust collecting compartment under the dryer and disturbs the dust). I didnt rewash my clothes then but everyone suffered from itching & biting sensations from the washed and dried clothes , so now I am forced to spend another £14 worth of rewashing my clothes again and drying my clothes again, just as I had to do last time eventually to save the situation on my family.. . All that time , money and effort because of the selfish, inconsiderate, and self-centred actions of one person. When you disturb concentrated dust collection(s), it is not just the visible clumps that are swept up that matter, but the invisible microscopic particles that are shaken up, difficult to catch/sweep up & that permeate the air and enclosed environment carrying the dust mites, ( that are also microscopic & abundant), that habitually occupy such dust compartments,. He would not be wearing a dust mask over his usual covid mask if he did not realise this on some level.. It is not just him but all launderette cleaners and owners should not clear out dust compartments from dryers during launderette opening hours , THIS SORT OF WORK/ CLEANING SHOULD BE DONE WHEN THE LAUNDERETTE IS CLOSED & PREFERABLY AT NIGHT SO THAT THE DUST RELEASED INTO THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE LAUNDERETTE HAS TIME TO SETTLE DOWN OVERNIGHT ( AND THE MICROSCOPIC DUST MITES TOO), AND DITTO FOR THE DRYERS THEMSELVES WHEN THEIR DUST IS REMOVED, AS THE DRYERS ARE ONLY SEPARATED FROM THE DUST BY A METAL MESH.
If feasibly this is difficult or too inconvenient, it would be sensible, better, more considerate, much safer for everyone and exceedingly ethical for owners to shut their launderettes an hour earlier one or two days a week on the same days each week, to get this type of cleaning done and put up permanent notices to this effect This will also help people who suffer from dust allergies etc who through straitened or other circumstances also have to use launderettes.
