Jean Grey

Dec 2, 2011

I was unable to find a review of Leonard Jay on the internet while considering buying a suit from them so thought I would add one. I recently purchased two suits in their sale.

Cloth – Both suits feature British-woven superfine 110 cloth (time will tell how the suits will wear). I haven’t worked out where their suits are made although I expect they are made abroad as with most other suits in this price range (which is almost identical to Roderick Charles, Charles Tyrwhitt and that sort).

Coats – Both have a relatively waisted cut. I dislike baggy coats but other less tailored styles were available. Both fit very well although admittedly I have a relatively standard and unremarkable build. The sleeve length is good and leaves the requisite half inch of shirt showing at the cuff. The coats appear to be half-canvassed but I haven't been able to confirm this yet. Linings are bright with a breast pocket on each side and a pen and card pocket on the left.

The coats have working cuffs and buttonhole thread matches the colour of the linings – nice touches normally associated with more expensive made to measure and bespoke suits.

Trousers – single pleat, belt loops (I prefer side-adjustors but these weren’t available in my size – my waistbands were altered to fit without the need for support anyway) slanted pockets and canvassed to knee.

Staff – Helpful and knowledgeable. They recommended a number of suits based on my requirements. Importantly they knew my size and measured me to double-check (far better start compared to a more expensive brand that supplied me with suits that were two sizes too big – if only I’d known better at that point!). I was slightly disconcerted when one member of staff said he thought the length of my trousers ‘looked good’ - they were far too long! Fortunately the remainder of the staff I dealt with knew a lot more. All alterations were carried out by Leonard Jay within 2 days and seem to have been done well.
