Disability discrimination of the worst kind
A friend of mine who has cerebral palsy, aged 31 was denied service at Costcutter,132 Ryefield Avenue, Uxbridge UB10 9DA, yesterday evening Saturday 16th April 2022. He was purchasing alcohol for a dinner party which, at age 31 he is perfectly, and legally, able to do. When my friend got to the till to pay the uneducated and darn right prejudiced owner refused to serve him. I was waiting in the car outside and he had to come out and call me in. I was perplexed at first as the shop owner was refusing to take my friends card payment and stated that it was “because he is DISABLED!!!!” but he would accept the payment if I presented my friends card for contactless payment. Clueless!!! The shop keeper said that this was recorded on camera that I was purchasing it. Absolutely disgusting!!!! I told the shop keeper numerous times that his behaviour was disgusting, and that he was blatantly discriminating.
My friend, understandably, was extremely and visibly upset by this. He was very embarrassed by being made a show of in front of other staff and shoppers that were there at the time. I was absolutely horrified. I cannot believe that discrimination like this is still going on in Britain today. It was literally like being teleported back to 1970’s England. This kind of behaviour needs to be eradicated. If people want to have this sort discriminative point of view then they should not be running businesses that are being used by all walks of society.
I would urge everyone, all of my neighbours, no to use this shop. Please take your business elsewhere.
On a last note, the really funny thing is, I am actually the one considered disabled, not my friend.
