I like 'were you born in a barn?'. Haven't heard anyone not on tv use it.

But then you could answer back something about how Jesus was so it's nothing to be ashamed of.

my grandparents and parents use and used this all the time, I think its a se london saying but not sure. I can always remember not sutting a door internal or otherwiase and being yelled at:

So were you born in a barn!! shut the door. You are letting the heat out. I am not made of money, you think It grows on a tree down the garden then? Believe me it got easier to remember to shut the doors.. he he :) :-?

Up here it's 'Were you born in a field?' (because a barn does actually have doors) and my brother gets it all the time from my Mum for not shutting the door.

Ones that annoy me are:

1) That's the cats pyjamas

2) Oh I'm as happy as Larry (Who the hell is this Larry that everyone keeps comparing their happiness levels to?)

3) Oh and I agree with other posts here about 'Innit'..my brother says it all the time e.g. 'I'm gonna watch X Factor, Innit'

4) I really hate when someone adds 'you know' to the end of every sentence e.g. 'I'm going to the shops, you know?. And I'm gonna buy some new shoes, you know?..etc. And I'm just like 'No I don't Know!!'

All good :)

"you know what I mean" is a real problem for me. I have to bite my lip when people say it.

eg

"I just hate it when buses are late, do you know what I mean?" - yep, just about got the gist of that one with you needing to check.

Any more?

 You old foggies you  ;)

I agree with "Do you know what I mean?" It's mostly used as a retorical question, but when my boyfriend sometimes says it and I don't respond, he looks at me as if I should reasure him that I understand. Grr.

I can't think of any other phrases that haven't been said, so I'm just gonna add that I am finding what really grinds my gears ( :smug: ) is when people go up at the end of their sentences like asking a question when a question is not being asked... Get me? ;) The Aussies do it a lot. Arrrrrrggghhhh!!!!
