Do you actually have to host a premiere or just organise one 'in theory'?
Premieres are just a simple way to generate media interest in a film usually the week before its public release. The more celebs you can get the better. Some film makers go to huge lengths to turn Leicester Square into a scene from the film, this creates a great atmosphere for the fans and other people who've turned up to meet the celebrities.
As krunchie frog says, once all of the celebrities and guests have arrived and entered the cinema the film is introduced and then watched. After the film there is quite often a party where the celebs and film stars will go and tell each how good they all are.
This initial hype for the film gets people excited about going to see it in the first week of release. Plus, the gossip magazines (and AIL ;)) will show pictures of celebrities at the premiere which generates more publicity for the film. For film makers all publicity is good publicity and premieres can generate it in bucket loads.
