Start now. Make little movies in your spare time and learn bout editing. Do you'll pick
up things on the way like lighting and the need for mics. Even if your stuff doesn't look professional. You can get HD cameras for cheapy now anyway. Oh and use a slate.

I'm not saying anything you make now will make it anywhere but it's practice and it shows you're active and serious about your ambition. And getting through the little mistakes and basic early on means you'll be ready to start on a level
above beginner.

Also apply to be a runner during your holidays and breaks. You get to see everything in action.

After school you could apply to a film directing course and learn about how to film and how to cast your actors and everything that goes with making a film.

KF is right about making your own little movies. You could just take a camera out and about filming various random things and then edit them together. Even if it's just on your phone for the time being. After you have enough footage you can put together a showreel.

I swear we should all get together and create a film. We've got KF as a writer, me and EL as the actors and now you, KelseeyScissorhands as the director ;)

Yay! Someone else who wants to be a film director too!

I also want to be a film director here. I am only seventeen at the moment but have made some little arty movies and had some work experience from Bill Nighy. Unfortunately for a woman its even harder to get into a career that is so dominated by men but its good to hear someone is in the same position as me!

I think the best type of work experience is just working on film sets and starting off as the dogs body and sort of build up from there.

No probs :)

I think you get jobs coming through regardless of your experience. I think though once you apply for them, the production company may then look at your online 'cv'. I don't know exactly how it works though. It's only my guess.

Hehe. I absolutely LOVE him. Well he came into my acting class to give us a talk about acting and at the end of it I just went up to him and asked him for work experience and he said yes and gave me some numbers and it all started from there. He really was the nicest guy.

And its good to hear you are a Tim Burton fan too! Woooo-Spread the Tim Burton love!
