Soooo Hi and living in Clapham (between the common and wandsworth common) whats it like?

Hi folks,

We are moving to Aberdeen with work in June and have put a rental offer in for a house in clapham, we have been told that its the most desirable area of Clapham as it sits between the 2 parks and has god train access (10 minutes walk).

We are both 30 somethings with no kids, we enjoy cafes/bars live music, not so worried about clubbing unless its friendly and laid back or a good mix of people.

My partner loves boutiques and independent shops for different clothes etc
I love music and ride a motorcycle.

We will be working in Vantage house so I think thats 1 train which is nice and should be against the morning flow heading towards the city.

I was wondering if there are any other people that sound a bit like us? How do you find Clapham, is it safe and a fun vibrant place to live?

Is the nightlife and places to eat worth investing the next 2 years in?

We liked Chiswick as well but the house we have looked at in Clapham swayed us and we were told its got a lot going on.

Any replies would be great guys.

Clapham sounds ideal for you. It has a vibrant cafe culture, lots of places to eat and drink and a lively nightlife.

I agree.. Clapham, particularly the Northcote Road are great for late twenties/thirties.. lots of nice gastropubs/restaurants/boutiques and plenty of buzz. I'm sure you'll love it!

Hey guys that's great thanks for taking the time to reply :)

Do AIL do any meet and greets etc? We will be new to the city, I do have some family there but they live across the city and have busy lives going on.

We are more than capable of meeting people of course haha but sometimes a good ice breaker is to put like minded same situation people in a room (preferably involving a glass of wine or a gin) and having a laugh.

It's not something we do at the moment. Although we have lots of social events listed in London here:

Mostly dating type events but there are some social ones too.


I don't think you'll have any problems meeting people in London, work is the best place to start, go out with colleagues at every opportunity to begin with, your own circle of friends will develop from there.


Enjoy the city, it's a great move and you won't regret it :)

I've found twitter a good place to meet new people. Made some great 'real life' friends through Twitter, and there are often local 'tweet ups' that you can show up to and meet people. Kind of like what you're asking there.
