...Is the second in a series of fine art exhibitions hosted at New Gallery London and co-curated by Sophia Starling and Bayly Shelton. Funk here is used to describe the miscellaneous value of artworks.


Finding a home for contemporary abstraction is the primary focus of David Mullen’s work. Mullen’s attempts to retain some meaning and worth in contemporary abstraction is mirrored in the objects chosen to paint, upholster or use as plinths. The domestic settings, the use of household gloss and furniture question the role of domesticity in art, challenging the boundaries between high art and decoration.
