I agree.I read somewhere that its only Notting Hill toffs that complain about it,RUBBISH.
I've lived in Ladbroke grove for 26 years and i can assure u i'm as common as they come,as are majority of my friends who also hate carnival time.
For those of u who moan about it being so good BUT DON'T LIVE HERE!!!let me give u a quick rundown.
From about the Tuesday before the weekend, all the soundsystems and steel pan players start testing their equipment so,FIVE DAYS BEFORE THE CARNIVAL, your kept up most of the night by music that blows your eardrums and vibrates your room.Carnival comes and its back to thousands of people, drunk, pi££ing and shi££ing and vomiting up your door and in your garden (if ur lucky enough to have one.)If u do go out to try and have some fun, most of the time your met by constant hostility, rubbish sticking to ur feet and the ability to walk 5 yards in 40 minutes.Sunday and monday nights the volume of music is doubled as the floats are still around and every1's having house parties so getting to sleep is a no go again.(THATS NOT INCLUDING THE CONSTANT BUZZING OF THE POLICE HELICOPTER UNTIL 4 IN THE MORNING)Sunday granted is not as bad and i advise people to go then rather than Monday.
204 arrests, quite a few stabbings and 2 shootings.(and thats just what u here on the news, theres always more)How can any1 tell me that this is fun.Its just a matter of time before something goes horribly wrong and lots of people get killed.
Oh and before any1 says anything,i have nothing against Reggae music,i actually quite enjoy it after being brought up in Ladbroke Grove and i'm not a racist (just ask my girlfriend who's Indian).I don't want to stop the carnival,i would just like it moved to a place where the crowd control (and noise) could be controlled, like Hyde park for instance.

Hi, If you think it's one big free fun weekend I am guessing you probably don't live in the aera. You won't be having to put up with two days of noise, ****ed up revellers, knee deep fast food wrappings and beer cans or having said ****ed up revellers urinating against yor front door. True there are some local residents who enjoy it, those with balconies have a prime view; but there's plenty of us that evacuate every year. I for one would be very happy to see the carnival relocate to the centre of Notting Hill as the name suggests or re-name it The Ladbroke Grove or Kensal Rise Carnival.

Yep, it's not all fun fun fun for the residents is it.

It really does put people out. I visited some friends in Richmond on the weekend, some other friends turned up at 5 o clock after a weekend away and had to find something to do until late that evening as they couldn't get back to their flat in Notting Hill. That's only a minor inconvenience compared to what those who stick around for the weekend will put up with.

It's amazing how this carnival is allowed to continue when perfectly civilised events like the Kenwood House Picnic Concerts get cancelled because of complaints from residents.

Absolutely Mogwai, I used to go the Kenwood concerts, it's a real shame that a group of wealthy local residents have that much hold over the council.

Notting Hill Carnival is just a meeting point for gangsters, drugdealers, punks. Its a shame for London to have such a poor event. The police should go to Brazil for training. Brazilian police holds effectively 2 millions of ppl/daily during its carnival

as a resident of Ladbroke Grove, i wish this "carnival" will get to an end soon

Seems a bit harsh Neiplus? Although having heard stories from friends who lived on Portobello Road I can sympathise with those who live in the area.

I don't see why you need to 'assure' people of such things. Anyone who is ignorant enough to judge the 'common' above the 'non-common' (or vice-versa) isn't worth explaining to

Here is a great place to be if you look for a great way of celebrating the carnival.

i hate the notting hill carnival, the only people that like carnival dont live in it,your house vibrating for two days non stop, the shit security men letting people in blocks of flats and estates to shit and piss, when they are there to stop that, carnival should be closed down its a health risk, the carnival music used to be all right but now they just play the same noise over in a loop at 200bpm,shouting silly words like "shake your foot" or "come on",,where i live they congregate both sides of my house 1or2 days before doing sound tests and rehersals playing the same tune for 9 hours, not to mention the contant stream of people knocking on my door asking to use the toilet, every year theres shit, piss and vomit out side my front door, piles of rubbish left for days with the stench of urine, the notting hill carnival started 50 years ago ,because a black man from brixton was killed in the streets of notting hill ,brixton and notting hill used to be at war then, white upper class men from the richer streets of notting hill fighting the brixton black men, a black woman started canival to create peace, but over the last 50 years theres been alot of killings at carnival so it changed what, the smell left after the notting hill carnival will stick with you for days,if you live there you know what i mean, why dont these people listen to the people that live there and just move it,hyde park was a good choice ,but the royals dont like the smell of piss either,if you look at the carnival route you will notice as soon as it gets near the really rich roads it changes direction back on to the poorer roads with council estates,it hardly goes near notting hill its self the closest it gets is westbourne grove, did i say i hate carnival

I didn't pick that up from your post :smug:

Sorry to hear about your experiences of the carnival, I'd be equally as upset by it. I've got friends who used to live there and they used to go away for the weekend every year. I think the general consensus is that residents hate it.

I personally can't think of anything worse than being surrounded by drunken professional festival/carnival go-ers. You know the type, dreadlocks, drinking from a bottle of cider dancing around an unhealthy looking dog.
