I try to smile at people...... but my smile probably scares most people :smug:

Theres some people you just don't do eye contact with.

Everything I really need to know about life I learned in a pub. Drink, and people will look more friendly. Buy people drinks and they will look even more friendly. The grim and gloom ridden sidewalk should be avoided at all costs - look at all those grumpy Londoners out there on the sidewalk! All the FRIENDLY Londoners are in pubs.

Chez Gerard in Covent Garden.....not a pleasant experience at all! Treated like the ultimate automaton and I get a feeling that due to the tourist traffic they unfortunately get away with it and leave many tourists with a not so good taste of what London is all about :-(

Completely agree - went there a couple of years ago and haven't been back since as it was so awful. I also hate those places that have a cover charge as well as adding 12.5% service, although completely in keeping with the whole attitude of this place.
