Hi everyone! I'm a new member. I found this website while checking if there were any especial things to do in London this next Sunday. I'm visiting London for the fifth time because I love it, and hopefully it's accessible with the low fare airlines. I think someday I'm going to stay in this city for at least a year. This time it's only for the weekend, but I'm going to Salisbury and Stonehenge too, which I still haven't seen.

My name's Laia (pronounced 'lie-uh' but I don't lie...), I'm 24 and a Genetic Biologist. I'm addicted to travelling Happy and I like many other 'things', such as animals, going to the theatre...
I speak English more or less, but I want to get way better, and also a British accent because I think it's the best one.
I should post a picture later, cause I'm not at home at the moment.

Hey Laia, welcome to the Forum!

"...speak English more or less!" ... I think someone's being very modest - your English is fantastic!

A genetic biologist hey? That's exciting...

What do you think about the discovery in May by a team of French researchers that mice can show the physiological expression of a genetic mutation that produces a spotty tail even if they don't carry the mutant gene?

Do you think it's reasonable to argue that the notion of the genome as a "list of parts" is now under threat? It could be suggested that the entire central dogma of genetics—that a gene is a self-contained stretch of a DNA molecule that encodes instructions for making an enzyme, and that genetic inheritance works via DNA—is now under revision. It is not that this picture is wrong, but it is certainly incomplete in ways that are challenging the textbook image of how genes work.

Discuss...

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

And where else have you travelled to?
(that's much more exciting than genetics ;))

All the best,
