A recent study, that was funded by the government looked at over 1,200 hours of output from the radio DJ and found that alcohol was mentioned on 703 occasions. In total 179 of these comments were made by presenters on the show. He has been criticised for celebrating binge drinking with one of the main issues being the jingle that stated: “If you're hungover from the night before, listen to (presenters) Tim and Kate".
It was revealed that of all of the comments made about drinking 73% were seen to encourage drinking. The study looked at a range of stations and presenters with the BBC on the whole faring very well. DJ Chris Moyles was the exception to this rule and most of his comments were seen to be encouraging binge drinking.
A spokesperson from the BBC stated: "We don't agree that our presenters encourage a culture of drinking. In fact, throughout this week we have run a high profile campaign on the radio and online asking listeners to think about the amount of alcohol they drink and how it could affect their health, looks and behaviour."
