Tube fares

£4 cash single, you can't be serious.

Luckily I work from home so don't have to use the transport system that much. As such I've not bothered getting an Oyster card. I earn a resaonable amount and never really minded the cash fares in the past, although i think this has now gone beyond a joke.

I can now pay the congestion charge for the same price as 2 singles on the tube!

Thankfully we're moving out of zone 2 to Surrey in a few weeks - God knows how people on lower incomes can afford to live in London these days.

Indeed I agree with you, Mogwai.

I use the tube infrequently so I can't keep up with all the different fare zones, cash versus oyster, prepaid capping versus travelcards... Now that I know it's going to cost £8 for two cash singles, I won't think twice about driving into Central London.

Seems a bit counter productive, Ken wants everyone on the Oyster so bad that he's made a sub-population of people to get in their cars who would otherwise use public transport!

I'll certainly be driving in to town from now until I move. The benefit of going door to door in the comfort of your own car rather than on the filthy public transport is worth whatever it costs to park for an hour in town.

I can't see these fare increases slowing, we all have the same reaction each year and then just accept it and get on with it. Next year a single will be £5 without a doubt ('without a doubt' - can't say that now without thinking of Ruth Badger :):) she must have said that 25 times per episode)
