With the summer fast approaching, Kids’ London becomes increasingly more important, particularly the Kids’ London that happens indoors and doesn’t rely on fine weather. For times like this, shop come venue Mystical Fairies is something of a hidden gem, a small piece of imagination between the city’s cafes and boutiques.

Strictly for the girlier of children, Mystical Fairies is a marshmallow centre of pink, fluffy, cute and sparkles. The main location is in Hampstead Village, tucked up Flask Walk – already something of a Diagoon Alley in its own right – and a stones throw from the Hampstead tube station.

Now in its tenth year, the shop’s main aim is to be a ‘little girl’s delight’. Visitors can browse a range of products meticulously selected to bring together the best of little-girl whimsy. There’s everything from princess dresses to fairy picnic baskets, glitter party shoes, gloves, wands, tiaras and jewelry. On top of this, the staff couldn’t be friendlier, positively encouraging parents to come in and let their children explore. Fairy makeovers with face paint or make up are available on a drop in bases most days.

Down below the shop, the experience becomes even more indulgent with an ‘Enchanted Garden’ in the basement. A party and event space, the room has been transformed with beautiful murals, 3D flowers, fairy toadstools and a Little Mermaid pond. During half terms and holidays, children can enroll for Fairy School or Princess Academy. These take place in two and a half hour sessions and conduct a group of children through a patchwork of arts and crafts, cupcake decoration, dressing up and games. There’s a children’s entertainer overseeing operations, and at the end, the young princesses and fairies receive a graduation ceremony.

For those keen on the sound of this, Mystical Fairies also offers birthday parties. An extension of the academy, these see a similar array of entertainment with the addition of cake, a birthday disco and balloons for all. The birthday child arrives 10 minutes early to receive a fairy makeover in order to be ready to welcome their guests.

For party guests, brothers and girls less keen on pink and sparkle, the shop also offers a range of Knight, Pirate and King outfits. The party games are also versatile so members needn’t feel isolated by more knightly temperaments.

Worth an afternoon’s outing, Mystical Fairies gives an addition splash of interest to a day in Hampstead. A lure to get the children out of the house and the opportunity to drop them off for an hour or so while you have a glass of wine and stroll on the Heath.
