Find the Golden Chip at Chez Gerard

The debate about who invented the first chips may continue to rage, with the Belgians claiming that it is they and not the French who we have to thank, but at Chez Gérard in Bishopsgate it is all deemed to be a bit of a storm in a chip pan.

“Can you imagine asking for a side order of Belgian fries?” laughs Alain Bourbon, head chef at Chez Gérard, the legend that brought the ultimate 'Steak Frites' to a grateful London back in 1975. “They may be laying claim to paternity in Belgium, but even the academics there admit there is little proof. We French have been eating frites since before the 1787 revolution, when spuds were cut and fried into bite-sized pieces on the Pont Neuf in Paris.”

Whatever their origin, nothing can detract from the French fries - with their unbeatable crispy crunch and secret seasoning ingredient - that take pride of place on Chez Gérard’s menu. And forget the skimpy portions found in many restaurants; here the frites are bottomless!

18th-24th February 2013 is National Chip Week and to celebrate, Chez Gérard will be running a daily promotion whereby the lucky diner who finds a golden chip in their bottomless frites will receive their meal free of charge.

Vive la France!
