The All In One Ultimate Restaurant List Interview: Simon Rogan

One of London’s Top 100 Restaurants 2013

Simon Rogan’s two-year pop-up Roganic closed at the end of June, leaving many London foodies hoping he’ll be back with something new in the capital very soon. Rogan is one of the UK’s most respected chefs, as anyone who has tried his egg yolk made from cod mousse will confirm. His flagship restaurant L’Enclume in Cumbria was awarded its second Michelin star this year, and he is also behind Rogan & Co in the same town, and the French at Manchester’s Midland Hotel.

On doing another Roganic: “I’m not following up Roganic with another London restaurant just yet because at the moment I am spending a lot of time at The French and we are re-furbishing L’Enclume, therefore we haven’t had much time to think about another location in London. We are looking at other opportunities at the moment.”

On what he would have done if hadn’t become a chef: “I’m not quite sure what I would have done, but it would be something to do with music.”

His advice to budding chefs: “Choose your career path carefully, keep your head down and don’t be afraid of good hard work.”

On his favourite food: “At home I usually cook something simple like roast beef on a Sunday. For my last meal I’d choose a Thai green curry.”
