Ginger Pig bacon at Dishoom

The Ginger Pig trots into Bombay cafe in London

London’s much-loved Bombay Café DISHOOM has partnered with rare breed pig specialists The Ginger Pig to serve the Limited Edition Ginger Pig Bacon Naan Roll, for four weeks only from 7th October until 2nd November 2013.

Bacon Naan Roll has gained cult status since Dishoom first opened its doors in Covent Garden in the summer of 2010. Frequently touted as the best bacon sandwich in London, this simple but utterly moreish dish has racked up numerous accolades along the way, including a place in Time Out’s Best Meat Dishes in London; the Bacon Naan Roll has well and truly earned its place in the breakfast hall of fame.
Now, London’s best breakfast is about to get even better. The freshly baked to order naan is packed with chargrilled smoked streaky bacon from The Ginger Pig’s herds of Tamworth, Old Spot, Berkshire and Plum Pudding pigs, and complimented by Dishoom’s tomato-chilli jam, cream cheese and fresh coriander. The smoked streaky bacon in the Limited Edition Bacon Naan Roll is dry cured for five days using a mix of rock salt, curing salt and Demerara sugar, before being cold smoked overnight above natural oak chippings to create a sweet smoky flavor in perfect harmony with the tangy jam.

The Ginger Pig began life over 20 years ago with a near-derelict farmhouse, an accidental famer and three Tamworth pigs. They now farm more than 3000 acres of farm and moorland and work with a group of like-minded farmers to supply their London butchery shops as well as a handful of restaurants. The Ginger Pig’s breeds include the ginger Tamworth, the black Berkshire, the spotty Old Spot and the Plum Pudding - a Tamworth/ Berkshire cross which produces pigs that are orange with black spots. Sadly there are fewer than 500 registered breeding Tamworth and Berkshire pigs left in the UK and they remain at risk on the Rare Breeds Survival Trust watch list. The work of The Ginger Pig is helping to make sure we don’t lose these animals forever.

Dishoom’s breakfast menu also serves many other delicious treats – including the Bun Maska, a hot toasted bun filled with a wedge of butter perfect for dunking into a glass of hot Chai; Akuri, a spicy scrambled egg dish served with grilled vine tomatoes; House Granola infused with Keralan vanilla pod; and mixed Fresh Fruit with Yoghurt. Dishoom’s Chai, the teas, the coffee and the Breakfast Lassi (with yoghurt, banana, mango and oats) are all delicious accompaniments to the Bacon Naan Roll.

The Ginger Pig Bacon Naan Roll is delicious – the perfect match of the “best bacon sandwich” with the “best bacon”. Truly, no better start to a dreary London morning.
Enjoy the Limited Edition Ginger Pig Bacon Naan Roll while it’s available, served at both Dishoom Covent Garden and Dishoom Shoreditch from 7th October until 2nd November; it’s certainly not long enough!
