Shake Shack launches the Great British Shake Sale

Raising funds for Action Against Hunger

Custard for a cause! On Friday, August 1st, Shake Shack® UK will kick off its 1st Annual Great British Shake Sale, benefiting Action Against Hunger.

The Great British Shake Sale is a company-wide initiative taking place August 1-31, 2014, at Shake Shack® Covent Garden. The goal is to raise awareness and funds for Action Against Hunger, an international humanitarian organisation committed to ending child hunger.

Throughout the month of August, visitors to Shake Shack® Covent Garden who donate £2.00 or more to Action Against Hunger will receive a voucher for a complimentary hand-spun shake—valued at £5.00 and redeemable on their next visit. Shake Shack is aiming to raise over £5,000 by 31st August.

Action Against Hunger has been working with the food and drinks industry for more than 15 years. Their Love Food Give Food campaign unites food lovers across the UK to take action against hunger. Everyone, from well-known chef ambassadors and restaurants to food producers and bloggers, as well as those who simply love to cook, can take a small action to make a big difference. The £2.00 donation could provide a two-day supply of therapeutic food used to nurse an acutely malnourished child back to health.

Shake Shack UK is offering seven different baked good-inspired frozen custard flavours, one for each day of the week from its “Custard Calendar.” Frozen custard flavours will include: Caramel Praline Cake; Lemon Meringue; Buttery Sugar Cookie; Oatmeal Crème Pie; Banana Bread; Chocolate Cheesecake and Black & White Cookie. These flavours can also be made into rich and creamy milkshakes.

“We are launching the Great British Shake Sale to support an organisation and cause that we’re very passionate about,” said Randy Garutti, Shake Shack CEO. “This initiative will allow us to have an open and honest dialogue with our guests and staff about the serious issue of childhood hunger. Following the success of previous Shake Sales in the US, we hope that this will be equally incredible in the UK, and we thank our guests for helping raise awareness around this issue.”
