Here Julian “JuJu” Garnett takes us through his Guide to all things London
What's the best thing about London?
The fact that it is the capital and the diversity of different nationalities and cultures. And with the Underground Tube network, it's easy to get from place to place. There is so much on offer, entertainment wise, and it's a great place to go out with your friends everywhere from Hackney to South London.
What's the worst thing about London?
Parking and driving restrictions. You can easily end up with a fine when you don't even realise you have broken the rules and conditions.
Where do you go to have fun?
In the centre of town, up the West End, Soho, Piccadilly, Shoreditch, Camden Town, Kings Cross, Tooting, Clapham. There are a lot of areas that are fun. Depends what is going on at the time.
Where is the most relaxing place in town?
Soho Square gardens, Grosvenor Square gardens and Berkeley Square gardens are all nice spots to escape the bump and hustle for a little while. Also Hyde Park and Green Park are lovely if you want that little bit more peaceful time and relaxation.
Where is your favourite place for eats and drinks in London?
One of my favourite spots to eat and drink is Tooting Broadway Market. There are a selection of little food stands and bars with a wide variety of different tastes and cultures. Del Boy's is my favourite spot there. The food and cocktails are outstanding and the serving staff are down to earth and super friendly. I like the surf 'n' turf platters for two and the margarita cocktails are second to none.
If I could change one thing about London...
The expense of everything. You can't even go to the toilet without having to pay for it!
What's your favourite venue to go to or play at and what makes it so special?
My favourite day time venue to go to and to play at is Two Tribes Campfire in Kings Cross. It’s free to get in and the vibe of the crowd is always so good when I've been. Never seen or heard of any trouble there and the music is always on point. Point Blank Radio summer parties are always good. I’ve played there once before and had a brilliant time playing to a great crowd. There are no rude or bossy bouncers either, like you find in some other venues, no names mentioned! I also love the venue 'Lit' in Clapham North. It is under the railway arches with the old exposed brickwork that gives it it's visual character and it's always a lot of fun, with decent crowds of local people dancing to great music and having fun. The staff are always so nice as well.
The song that reminds me most of London is…
Davy Jones 'Maybe It's Because I'm a Londoner' ... It's a cockney classic. What other "London" songs are more well known and loved than this one?
Tell us a London gem that everyone should know about
Del Boys (Tooting Broadway Market). It's chilled by day with great food and drinks on offer, but into the night time it becomes a lively place to be with big gatherings of people having fun, singing and dancing. It's one of those places that you wouldn't expect it be like that, but it is and Friday and Saturday nights are a lot of fun.
One thing everyone should do in London is...
Take a boat ride up and down the Thames and make sure it goes underneath Tower Bridge. It's always fascinating to see it from that angle, plus all of the other landmarks to look at around it and along the river. I recommend going on a boat party with your closest friends so as well as seeing all the beautiful architecture and landmarks, you can have a lot of fun dancing and drinking along the way, and especially worth a mention are the Faith boat parties.
