Fledgling DJ Lil Meesh has already created an impressive reputation as a captivating House Music DJ in the club scene with her infectious energy and track selection. From guest appearances at Portugal’s Soul Fusion Festival to spinning at Detroit’s Spotlight and The Summer Series at the Congregation to the UK where she’s played for the Deep Into Soul Thames boat party and  Soul Society in Manchester and Birmingham.

Her DJ journey began shortly after lockdown learning in a unique way via video calls from her fiancé who is also a DJ. Since then she’s travelled to Detroit for renowned events such as The Charivari at the famous Spotlight, The Summer Series at the Congregation and bars such as Bosco’s and Club Neep.

Making her debut for Househead London on Saturday October 26th we catch up with Lil Meesh to chat all things London.

What’s the best thing about London?

London’s soulful house scene is a vibrant diverse and evolving music culture., whose reputation includes legendary clubs and parties in iconic venues such as Ministry of Sound and events such as the Southport Weekender Festival, Deep Into Soul and Househead London. It’s also a home to a wealth of influential DJs and artists rspected all over the world. I love the diversity and energetic atmosphere that’s always inspiring.

What’s the worst thing about London?

It’s got to be the Congestion zones and driving tolls and of course the general cost of living.

Where do you go to have fun?

I love to go out dancing with friends as I love the music scene and the energy and special nights it brings. I love traveling also and visiting new places in London and learning about different cultures. I love to go to the cinema and to different restaurants.

Where is the most relaxing place in town?

I like to relax by going to Regents Park as it’s got great walks, boating, the rose garden and right now it has the Frieze Sculpture installations on display too until October 26th. Another great place to relax is along the river Thames, whether it’s kicking back with drinks at one of the many pubs dotted along its banks or a restaurant, or having a stroll. The views are great especially when it’s sunny.

Where is your favourite place for eats and drinks in London?

I love to try lots of new places to eat and drink but I really love Soho and its multitude of places to eat. You can try food from around the world here. I would recommend The Soho Social - it’s a lovely fairly new little spot that has a great breakfast and dinner menu. They make a mean Eggs Benedict and their homemade pancakes are amazing. They also do some great cocktails and are reasonably priced.

If I could change one thing about London…

Mostly it would be to bring down the cost of living as it seems to be rising every day.

What’s your favourite venue to play at and what makes it so special?

Being a new DJ to the scene I’ve played a handful of venues in London, Including a boat party on the Dutch Master on the River Thames, and my favourite to date. I am so excited to be playing at Aures for Household London on October 26th alongside Chicago’s Chosen Few DJs Alan King & Wayne Williams, Paris Cesvette and Deli G.

The song that reminds me most of London is…

It’s a fairly recent one by Prefix One featuring Hannah Khemoh titled “Deja Vu” which over the last two years has been an anthem on many club nights and I've created some amazing memories dancing along to it with friends.

Tell us a London gem that everyone should know about

I love Brixton and I think everyone should visit it when they come to London. Brixton market is such a great place and the little boutiques and eateries are lovely. Fish Wings and Tings is a dope spot. It’s a Caribbean restaurant in Brixton courtyard and everyone should hang out at the courtyard as the atmosphere is amazing. They hold free weekend DJ pops ups and then there’s clubs and great bars to hang out in too.

One thing everyone should do in London is…

I would say to walk along the River Thames and see the historic sights such as the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Also visit Hyde Park and take a blanket if the weather is nice and just sit and chill, taking in the scenery. Such a great place to relax in in the middle of town.

Lil Meesh joins Chicago’s Chosen Few DJs Alan King & Wayne Williams for an Exclusive show at Househead London on Saturday October 26th at Aures in Waterloo. With DJs Paris Cesvette and Deli G also on the line up, tickets are available here RA: https://ra.co/events/1973076
