The 78th Annual Academy Awards

Catch up on who won and who lost out last night on Tinseltown’s most glamourous night of the year!

As expected, the critically acclaimed Brokeback Mountain galloped into the sunset with the maximum number of awards as the 78th Annual Academy Awards ceremony came to a close.

The controversial gay western rode high with the coveted Best Director honour for Ang Lee and two other awards for Adapted Screenplay and Original Score. However its lead actor Heath Ledger and two supporting actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Williams left empty handed.

Winners at the 78th annual Academy Awards, presented Sunday night at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles:

Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman, "Capote."

Actress: Reese Witherspoon, "Walk the Line."

Supporting Actor: George Clooney, "Syriana."

Supporting Actress: Rachel Weisz, "The Constant Gardener."

Other British winners on the big night included Nick Park and Steve Box who gave their Oscar statuettes matching bow ties when they accepted the awards for Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, which won best animated feature; which is Park’s fourth Oscar.
