Croydon is practically a city in its own right, with a large shopping district, arts complexes, a multitude of transport options and even its very own television channel. There are also several live music venues in the area, as Croydon has been the breading ground to many musicians, partly thanks to the BRIT School, attended by Amy Winehouse and Adele. Since becoming an important commercial centre in the 1960s, many businesses moved their headquarters here, hence the proliferation of multi-storey office buildings. There are also plenty of green spaces once you get away from the town centre, and there is a mixture of leafy residential streets and modern estates with tower blocks.
