Rotherhithe is one of the Docklands districts that is becoming heavily populated by luxury developments and their wealthy owners, in stark contrast to the dock worker’s houses that used to fill the area. Historically, the docks had strong ties to Scandinavia, hence names like Greenland Dock and Finland Street, and there is still a small Scandinavian community in the area. There are some fantastic views over the Thames as well as a number of attractive pubs; the Mayflower Pub is named after the ship that departed from here for the US. Transport links are good thanks to the overground and nearby Jubilee Line at Canada Water, where the nearest shopping centre is also located.
