The first and only independently owned public house in Holborn; 20 craft beers on tap! The Holborn Whippett brings all this back by stocking only from small craft breweries and firing up a classic coal oven. Our coal burgers are as well regarded today as grilled mutton was in the past.

All In London Review

Great beers and an almost picturesque spot on Sicilian Avenue

Review Image
It may be located on the exotically named Sicilian Avenue – a strip of street in Bloomsbury with a distinctly European feel to it – but the Holborn Whippet is a sturdy example of the new brand of London beer pubs. The most exotic thing here is the magical beer taps that appear from an exposed brick wall behind the bar and carry out the job of dispensing a range of craft beers and rare ales that it should feel proud of.

The idea behind the Whippet is one of making beer accessible. No pretension, frills or gimmicks are added to the classically smart interior that lurks behind the stylish curved bay facades that cover the buildings the length of Sicilian Avenue. Were the Holborn Whippet located in most areas in London you could probably describe the space as ample but since it is in an area that seems to attract one of the largest and most loyal after work crowds around, it can get to be a bit of a squeeze. Outdoor standing room on the pedestrianised walkway is a sweet summer spot for an early evening beer and the dark wood and dim lights make inside a cosy spot come darker days.

Bratwursts, burgers, pizzas and salads accompany the huge range of small-brewery beers, which is no doubt one of the Whippet’s major selling points. And probably a reason the pub is so popular with stag groups.

We liked the food, we loved the beer and we positively melted at the sight of the sun setting at the end of Sicilian Avenue. The Holborn Whippet just shows London’s pub scene won’t be going to the dogs anytime soon. Boom-tish!

The Whippet Holborn coped well with our stag/pub crwal last Saturday. Loads of beers and sturdy burgers did the trick. All storts of odd beers, but also standards like Adanms.
