The Blythe Road Restaurant

I felt compelled to write having read the othe review of the Blythe rd restaurant. We discovered this local gem last year and although it is small, basically decorated and with only one waitress the food is excellent. It is slightly higher in price than the average chinese but we and all the friends we have taken there agree it is worth it. The deep fried squid is very tasty and the lemon chicken delicious but all the other dishes we have tried have been just as good. We are happy to pay a little more for food that is by far superior to the average chinese. I highly recommend that you try it out.

I recently moved to the area and am a huge fan of chinese so was looking forward to trying this place out. I popped in on my way home on a friday evening (where there was only 2 sets of diners eating), to be told that they could only take cash (fine) and they had just taken a big order so it would take a long time, the lady did not seem overly keen for business at all. she had to go and check with the chef to see they could accomadate my order. Unfortunately for me, they could.

There is no take-away discount, you are paying same price as the in-house diners, which I also found more dear than most standard chinese restaurants. The food was also really, seriously disappointing, I barely ate any of it....which is why I felt so compelled to write this review.

The best thing about my chinese meal were the prawn crackers...which I actually had to make myself at home as when I wanted to add them on to the order whilst paying, the lady insisted that they would take them too long as they are made from fresh. They take literally 5 seconds in hot oil to make. Very, very bad experience here.
