Matahari Restaurant

Just like to report that everything is still good at the Matahari following a return visit after a few years away. The menu is good with all the usual favourites and some great spicy Malaysian style specials as well. I love the properly prepared starters, the spicy aubergine and the crispy lamb which I prefer to the similar Peking Duck dish. All dishes are properly prepared and taste as great as they should. Service is pleasant, attentive and efficient, and the interior is pleasant clean and neat. I have eaten their food for many years with friends on the premises and at home and it never fails to be spot on. It’s near to the station, so no need to dive, and an additional attraction these days is that dishes seem very reasonably priced - a main course for less than a starter in many a swankier establishment. What more could I want?

This is one of our local restuarants in Hither Green and it is consistently good. The food is really tasty and there are good vegetarian options as well as everything you would expect. It is also really good value. I highly recommend the veggie starter for two even for meat eaters as it is very good and you get lots of variety and its so inexpensive. The owners are from Malaysia and Hong Kong and always warm and friendly. The only negative is that it is less popular than the curry place next door so sometimes it is quiet because I think people don't know what to expect from a Malaysian restaurant and it could really do with drumming up some extra business with special offers on certain nights of the week, takeaway leaflets with good descriptions or family discounts maybe. We eat in and often get takeaways. Highly recommended.
