Banana Leaf Canteen

This is definitenly one of the best Oriental restaurants in London. Great food and vibrant atmosphere with sensible prices. There is however always seems to be a queue to contend with, even on a Monday evening but it does move quickly so don't let that bother you. I am a regular local resident so I know. They are a little bit of a hybrid type restaurant as the menu allows you to have a quick noodle fix or a full blown three course meal. Either way this place rocks! They are a little bit Wagamamaish with their bench seating but they have a less clinical feel, infact it is slightly rustic hence making it more personal. Try their Laksa and Seafood Santan Curry, absolutely fab...........Highly reccommended, especially with the credit crunch, this place will not make you feel ripped off like some of the pizza joints!!

Just been to the Banana Leaf in Clapham Junction for lunch today and was served undercooked chicken for my starter (literally pink and bloody). Told the waitress and she took it away apologetically... then for their main course, one of our party also had even pinker and bloodier chicken! So, again, we had to tell the waitress and she apologised once more and took it away. To be fair to them they didn't charge for either of the undercooked dishes, BUT this is a major food preparation issue as undercooked poultry can cause salmonella poisoning, e-coli, etc. Perhaps the chef was just having an off day but I won't be visiting it to take a chance next time, that's for sure!
