All In London Review

The perfect setting to start a day of exploring the greats of the gallery

Review Image
If you’ve not yet experience The National Café, it may just be the perfect setting to start a day of exploring the greats of the gallery. Oliver Peyton’s gallery restaurant, run by Peyton & Byrne with their signature style, has introduced a new picture perfect brunch menu to enjoy daily, making it the perfect pitstop for gallery-goers, locals and families looking for a tasty food fix with a side of culture.

Offering a modern, healthy take on all the brunch classics, the new menu features a hitlist of delicious dishes in an elegant dining room flooded with natural light. Decorated in soothing greys and pale pinks, with a rose bud vase placed delicately on each table, it feels a world away from the tourist trappings surrounding it. It certainly feels special.

The menu includes breakfast classics, vibrant lunch options like a miso salmon poke bowl with brown rice, pickled carrot, kimchi and seaweed and a dedicated kids’ menu includes an array of breakfast dishes from pancakes to porridge through to toasted tea cakes and scrambled eggs.

Starting with a glass of bubbles - it would be rude not to in such a setting - we began with a breakfast basket for the table of toast and croissants with butter and jam. I followed with the rather delicious duck egg hash, more crispy potato wedges than strictly a ‘hash’, but with a hearty portion of juicy shredded duck and topped with a perfect Clarence Court duck egg scattered with chives. My friend went for the avocado on sourdough toast with organic feta, chilli and tomato, with extra avocado and superbly crispy bacon. The food was great, fresh and filling - I would love to head back and try the Shaksuka - and very reasonably priced for what is such an elegant setting. National Gallery Members can also receive a 10% discount at The National Café when showing their membership card, so what are you waiting for? Kick off your culture day with a dish!
