All In London Review

Could very well give the Ivy Chelsea Garden a run for its money

Review Image
Chelsea has no shortage of great dining spots, but the arrival of Sloane Place earlier this year added a new competitor to the fold. This space a few minutes away from the bustle of Sloane Square encompasses a restaurant and subterranean cocktail bar, within a cosy hotel and spa facilities from The Sloane Club Spa.

A family business with a long history in hospitality, Sloane Place opened earlier this summer offering guests and locals relaxed elegance in a contemporary, chic setting. From the thoughtfully designed bedrooms to our carefully curated menus, everything has been considered for your experience with genuine, personal service to help you feel at home from the moment you step inside.

The dining room is beautiful, with big round tables calling out for brunches with friends and a menu that carefully brings together sharing plates, hearty mains and indulgent desserts in an eclectic “Modern British” style. Bernhard Mayer, ex Executive Chef of the Savoy and Four Seasons Hotels believes in letting fresh, high quality ingredients speak for themselves, never compromising on flavour and always presenting dishes with care and attention to detail.

Visiting for a midweek supper, it was fairly quiet, a pleasant buzz meaning I could easily catch up with conversation over dinner without shouting to be heard over noisy fellow diners and pumping tunes, neither of which is quite Sloane Place’s style. We started with a plate of juicy padron peppers and a melt in the mouth beef tataki, delicately flavoured with a truffle dressing.

Opting for a healthier main, my friend chose a delicately flaking fillet of grilled dover sole, accompanied with broccoli and steamed spinach. I however decided on the lobster and prawn burger. A sublime hunk of chunky, juicy fresh seafood in a brioche bun, with a spicy mango-chilli relish, avocado and a crunchy fresh coleslaw. It was a delicious alternative to a normal burger and certainly one I’d have again. Desserts range from a light exotic fruit salad to the deeply indulgent tonic bean chocolate brownie with peanut butter ice cream, though after our feast we politely declined on this occasion.

With an additional breakfast and brunch menu full of freshly made smoothies and everything from light bites such as an acai bowl to Eggs Benedict and a full English, it’s quite possible that with its charming interior, well thought out menu and excellent service it could very well give the Ivy Chelsea Garden a run for its money before long.
