Shapla

I was disgusted following a meal at Shapla this evening. I ordered a 30 day trial on the taste card before comminting to buying one, Shapla was the first restaurant that i have used this card. I dined with my mother, sister, 12 year old daughter and 3 year old neice we were the only people eating in. The food was average, I had no complaints tho. There was a member of staff fell asleep sitting but to be honest it was better him sleeping as he just stared at us off putting. On the Taste website it states that there would be a 50% discount on up to 8 people. When i recieved the bill I was surprised at the charge as I was expecting a cheap night out dining. I questioned as I could not make out writing, I had been charged £5.20 for 3 popadoms! I had been charged £2.50 extra for the childrens doggy bags and £5.20 and extra 50p or so was put on each item, 5 curries, 2 side dishes, 3 nan breads and desserts. The explanation being that they charge per head for popedoms even tho we only had 3. They could not deduct 50% as advertised off the food bill as 4 of the curries ordered were over £5 and drinks and deserts were charged on top as expected plus all there made up chrages. The explanation I was given for the overcharge of £35 on my bill was that they have to make a living, they cant be giving away food and I should count myself lucky that i had a discount at all. Shapla stated that they charge extras in other places on the bill to make up the money they are losing through the taste card and that there regular customers do not complain and pay these charges. I paid the bill on reflection I feel humiliated, robbed and feel I have let my family down as we had planned, look forward to and work hard for a meal out. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Shapla wouldn't return my taste card so ive lost out on the time I had left on it. I paid the bill as I always would, but i felt in quite a vulnerable position. We have been there on several occasions for family birthday and my son now insists on going nowhere but there. The food is excellent and the service very friendly indeed.
