For me, Cafe Taj is the best curry venue in the city area, unless you're willing to pay for those places where you'd go on expenses, such as the Bengal Clipper or Rajastan's.
If you're paying for the food yourself then I think you'll find that most of the dishes they serve up are very good. What I've noticed is that the flavours are very well balanced and still delicious at the end when you're clearing off the place. Several trendy curry houses have quite bland food which initially smells great but after a few mouthfulls fails to offer anything more. The Taj do a particularly good Lamb Rogan Josh. I would add that they stick to all the usual dishes and there is nothing new or interesting on the menu. However, if you're after a normal curry then this is the best around. Other restaurants have some interesting choices but their basics dishes can be disappointing.
The service is quick and polite and the restaurant is clean, modern and bright. It's also very popular with the Insurance community so you might want to book at table on Thursdays and Fridays.
All in all, a very good lunchtime venue.
Cafe Taj serve a variety of traditional Indian dishes at their restaurant and can cater for private parties of up to 15 guests upon request.
