I was very disappointed with the Taste of India - having not even had the chance to get to eat my meal. After looking online I came across the Taste of India (covent garden) and booked a table for my Aunt's 50th for 12 people. The booking was done automatically over the phone, which was very simple to follow and organise. However, when I came to try and contact the restaurant - every number I tried reached a dead end. I left a message and - due to the date coming up - was forced to call another restaurant as a reserve booking. When someone did call me back (eventually!) they told me the restaurant in Covent garden was currently being refurbished! I questioned what they would have done had I turned up on the Saturday with 12 people to a closed restaurant. I felt very disappointed as the food on the menu looked lovely and the booking experience was one of the easiest I have done. But this was let down by the communication break-down.

Terrible. I entered the restaurant, I was the only client... maybe, this should have warned me. The waiter was pretty rude.
I ordered a rhogan Josh which was so hot, I couldn't taste any of the ingredients, mushroom rice was as spicy as the meal, and I'm still looking for the cheese in the cheese nan.
I was served a small glass of water for the whole meal.
When I wanted to pay, I put a 20£ on the bill, and the waiter asked me "do you want the change ?". Well, I said... yes ! and left a (small I must say) tip but felt really unwelcomed and upset.
For me England is the best place to eat indian food in Europe. Well, this one is not amongst the best I ever tasted.
I absolutely do not recommend it.

As our work was paying our expenses, we thought the pre theatre menu looked a great deal. We didn’t expect much for the price that was advertised. However when the bill arrived it was considerably more than we had expected. I know you have to pay for what you get so if you are on a budget, make sure you say no to the popodoms and dips they plonk on the table, it appears you are charged per dip, per person per pot.

I have eaten at The Taste of India in Covent Garden a number of times and can not praise the quality of the food highly enough. The chicken Jalfrezi is the best I have ever had !The Manager was friendly and the waiting staff courteous. Its not cheap but am prepared to pay for quality food.I think the previous reviewer must have caught them on a bad day and that is unfortunate. Give this restaurant a go,its worth it and you will enjoy the food I am sure.

I'VE NEVER RECEIVED SUCH TERRIBLE SERVICE! After watching Oliver at the Theater Royal, my friend and I decided to eat some Indian food before heading home. As I was not feeling well, I ordered just a tea and she ordered a full curry dish from the menu. The waiter then proceeded to demand that we order another dish because we were two people. I refused and said that if the restaurant had a minimum, it should be posted, and I had no problem leaving. The waiter said he would ask his manager who must have assured him that our order was satisfactory. The food was prompt in arriving but before my friend was even halfway done with her meal, an older man- possibly the manager- asked that we hurry up because there was a group reserved for our table. Again, I told the man that we were his current paying customers and if our table was reserved he should not have seated us since there were other open tables in the restaurant. Frustrated, my friend then asked for the check and without looking it over, she handed the waiter her Card. Afterward, we looked at the receipt and realized that we had been overcharged. The waiter dismissed our complaint saying that he thought our waters were beer. He handed my friend the difference in change for the "beers," but not for the service fee which was included in our check. The entire visit was simply outrageous!

Last week I went to the theatre Dirty Dancing with my family and after the show came across to Taste of India, it was a nice and well decorated Indian restaurant. After being entered the staff gave us warm welcome and a nice table. We have eaten different kinds of food but Lamb chop masala and Butter chicken was excellent. Hope I will be there again for quality service and food.

I went to Taste Of India with my friend, who is a vegetarian and as a starter he tried the mixed vegetable cake and i had kebab plater which consist of grilled lamb chop, chicken tikka, and grilled king prawn. It was really wonderful. For the main course i tried lamb shank and my friend had a vegetarian thali, after a long time we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The staff was helpful, friendly and provided prompt service. We definitely will return to Taste Of India with my family.

Very very poor. You and your family will be asked to wake up from your seat even if you are only half finished your food.

Very poor service and very average food.

My elderly mother and I were on a visit last month and had not booked for dinner prior to the performance of lord of the rings and came across the taste of india who only had one couple in the restraunt and they welcomed us with open arms. unfortunatley once we had cut ito a piece of chicken we found it raw. upon this we comlained about it. the food was taken away and we were replaced by food to suit. unfortunatley the attidude of the waiters was agressive and I advise everyone not to eat here

Actually, I have been there for lunches and have been going with my colleagues a number of time ever since as I feel amongst the rest around Holborn / Strand area, this is the best - and it is. My colleagues enjoyed too. However, I do have to agree that they added additional beers on our bill (as it was huge and they thought we might not notice it), which we clarified to them and they happily changed it. The waiters have been ok and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place for the quality of food, but will warn you to check your bill before you pay. The head manager was trying to be friendly, but he has an accent problem which in turn sounds rude as opposed of being funny.

PART 2 - In most Indian restaurants, they are happy for you to request a dish that isn't on the menu, but when the vegetarian in our group asked if he could have a vegetable balti, he was immediately told no, which makes you wonder if anything is actually cooked to order. We were seated at the back of the restaurant by the bar and spent the whole evening watching the paralytically drunk manager of the restaurant groping and generally sexually harassing his waitresses (or indeed any female customers who got too close). When we complained about our food, the waitress suggested getting the manager, but having seen the state of him, there didn't seem much point. Avoid this place like the plagu

As soon as we were seated, poppadums were immediately brought to our table which seemed to be an encouraging start, but they later appeared on our bill – it would have been nice if we had been asked! Despite it being a "Chef's Speciality", my chicken tikka massala was probably the worst I've ever had – the chicken was dry and overcooked, and the sauce was watery and tasteless. The rice was burnt and my friend's lamb passanda was also disappointing. I'm surprised the restaurant advertises vegetarian options, as they only had vegetable side dishes on offer. In most Indian restaurants, they are happy for you to request a dish that isn't on the menu, but when the vegetarian in our gro

Taste of India is a pleasantly decorated restaurant. While most of the food at Taste of India is actually quite nice, the service alone leaves the diner with a bad taste. The waitstaff is aloof and very rude, and our bill had added items that we hadn't eaten. We notified them and they returned with a second bill: the items had been replaced with other items (that we had not eaten). Two people in our group got severe stomach cramps after we returned home! (they had the chicken korma)
