We went for a weekday lunch in late May when the sun was shining. Furnishings and decor were good and our table ideal, just inside the restaurant but where we got the breeze and could see out onto the street. There's a set £13.50 two course menu for lunch which is good value - the a la carte was a little bit pricey for us so we would probably not come in the evening. Starters of mussels were good but the mozzarella, basil and tomato salad was bland. Why use unripe tomatoes in a dish where the ingredients are everything? Mains of veal in lemon sauce served with mashed potato and squid in a tomato sauce were both good and benefited from the addition of a side order of courgette in batter at a not unreasonable £4 but big enough to share between four. The house white by the glass was drinkable enough and the friendly staff were happy to supply a jug of tap water. Service of 12.5 percent is added automatically so our lunch was just over £40 without coffee or dessert.

Spent a wonderful late lunch on Sunday in Essenza. Food was marvellous, steaks, tuna, pasta and authentic Italian veal main courses. Also very accommodating with odd requirements for quirky vegetarians! The service was exceptional, highly recommended for small groups for any celebrations.
