Firstly arrived at the venue with no greeting and was placed with 2 table each with 3 sits, despite I asked for a table of 6. Then had to put the two table together myself with my guests. Ordered starters that took 25/30mins to come. By the time that came the starters was cold. Everyone's food came slowly but was quoted 10/15mins. Two of guest main meal came without the rice and when the rice came it was when almost when we all that finished are meals. I asked waiter to take back the rice but he refused and was very rude about the removal of the rice despite it came 30mins after everyone finally got their meals. Was not asked if we even wanted more drinks and-were made to feel unwelcome.

And to top it off the card machine was not worked and we were not warned from the start and made us feel as through the card was decline due to no funds. When they discovered it was not work the waiter said it's not his fault and nothing he can do. To sum up the night the venue was under staffed and poor service and the quality of the food was not worth the price-list. The manager was aware of the unpleasant service and his comment was ' he blames it on the fact he was unstaffed'. There was only one waiter working that night. This is the worse restaurant I have been to and I was ashamed to take my guest there for my birthday. That will be my first and last time going to iroko!

I have been to this place three times, twice just for a drink and once to eat even though I never had a meal. I thought the first two time I might have been offered a menu or even served but no. After ordering drinks on all events we where never approached by any staff to refill or offer us a menu. The last time I went there with a girl friend and I told her about the first two visits so we thought we would get drinks from the bar. We made a few comments in ear shot of the bar tender about the menu but he seemed to ignore us or did not hear us. We sat near the door still no one approached us. We drank our drinks watching and waiting but no one came to ask us any thing or offer us a menu. The chef a large lady came out of the kitchen and shouted at the staff about how people where not doing anything (which I thought was unprofessional to shout in front of customers), but still no one came to give us a menu. So we left and went to The Gallery down the road. The place looks amazing but there is no service, too many staff wondering about not knowing what to do. I wont be giving them another try. And oh yes a few months ago my socail club was looking for a place to have an afternoon meal for a group of 20 and they did not want to know. You missed out big time as now you are open in the afternoon and our group has got local funding for an intergenerational project we will take our business else where

We had been meaning to visit Iroko Bar & Restaurant for a while. Located between Brixton and Streatham Hill on Brixton Hill, they have been open just over a year now. Iroko Bar & Grill is a place with three distinct sections. Downstairs is the place to party with a DJ, dance area and bar. When we went there, there was a large private birthday party and they looked like they were having a great time. The restaurant is on the ground floor with a large bar and on a further open mezzanine level. Iroko has its roots in West Africa with wooden sculptures around the place to reflect this. I had the pepper soup to start which was packed full of roughly chopped lamb and spiced with chilli and peppers. I ordered the Iroko Seafood Skewers but there was a mix up with my order and an alternative was offered. I plumped instead for the Caesar salad which was fresh and tasty. My boyfriend had Suya to start which was a marinated rump steak served with tomatoes and onions and Jollof for his main dish, a rich, red spiced lamb curry served with fried, spiced red rice. We also shared fried yam which was like a flourier and denser version of potatoes. The bar element was getting progressively busier during our meal and we were tempted to stay for a boogie. As we left the manager told us that they are going to be reviewing their menu ready for a fresh approach in the autumn.

It's typical isn't it when you read reviews that they often contradict each other. It doesn't mean that either party is wrong, just that their experiences were very different, in itself, possibly a reflection of the restaurant in question. It is true that service is a bit hit and miss at Iroko. More miss in the early days but a recent visit suggests things have improved. The food menu is varied enough to offer a good range choice and the quality of the food, when it arrived, made it worth the wait. I like my food seasoned, with deep, rich and ideally hot flavours. I'm fan of Afro-Caribbean cooking so Iroko was right up my street. And let's be honest, the part of Brixton Hill that it sits on could do with brightening up. Anyone had fun walking past the no good, low downs hanging outside the two, yes two, betting shops on Brixton Hill. I welcome Iroko. I like the food. The staff are charming. The decor not my style but interesting. And I hope that it continues to improve and not let poor service let it down. It's worth a visit. Make up your own mind. a

Oh dear. I really, really wanted to like this place as it brightens up a drab bit of Brixton, but we left vowing never to go back. Having ordered, we waited 20 minutes to be told they didn’t have half the food on the menu. After another very, very long wait, they brought out my main meal and my partner’s starter. Then another long wait. Then my starter. My chicken was dry and every dish (when it finally arrived) was covered in the same standard sauce. We politely complained that it was taking ages, the service was poor and that the food was coming out in completely the wrong order. They were apologetic, but more in a resigned way than wanting to do anything about it. As a final flourish, they over-charged us for things we’d ordered, but they’d never bothered to give us. More time spent on food and service and less on interior décor please.
