I have been to The Gate twice and been unimpressed by the limited menu both times which is a shame as it has a lovely atmosphere.I decided to go back to give them a chance to prove my first impression wrong,sadly it worsened my opinion.On my second vist(24.03.06)I opted for the vegan version of mushrooms in filo pastry which was quite dry and distinctly average.For dessert I chose the sorbet,marked as vegan on the menu.It wasn't until I had a mouthful I discovered it wasn't sorbet but ice cream and definitely not vegan.Despite apologies from staff that mistake is unacceptable,unforgivable and inept. The wait staff knew I was a vegan.Needless to say, I won't be going back.
The Gate Vegetarian Restaurant offers a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes. They specialise in gourmet International dishes, occasionally using organic products. They also offer a selection of wines and spirits. A takeaway option is also available. This branch can cater for private parties of up to 20 guests upon request. Terrace seating is provided.
