Once upon a time the food hall was either the luxurious kind (think the exotic, yet eye-wateringly expensive array at Harrods) or the humble collection of fast food outlets at most shopping centre food courts. Then Market Halls came on the scene, capitalising on Londoners' love affair with street food and installing traders into beautiful historical buildings like the old Edwardian arcade opposite Victoria station.
Their three sites are huge (there's one in Fulham Broadway and another in the old BHS building on Oxford Street, which is the biggest food hall in the UK), and at each you can sample food from the States to China via Mexico and the Middle East, all under one roof, without mortgaging a kidney.
