Explore the history of musical instruments

A 3-story site with shop, cafe and concert hall.
This must try is connected to: Musical Museum

This exceptional museum in Brentford has an impressive collection of working instruments along with displays that tell the history of reproducing music. Particular attention is given to the church organs, theremins and Wurlitzers, with some brilliantly handcarved examples that are as much musical instrument as intricately built relic. A number of the pianos can be played or can self-play; the gramophones and early synthesizers are also not to be missed.

The museum was founded in the 1960s thanks to the private collection of one Frank Holland. He was initially given the use of a local church to showcase his treasures; this is now a three-story site with a shop, cafe and concert hall designed to emulate the old theatre halls where a Wurlitzer would provide backing music and musical interludes — and yes, on occasion someone from the museum will surprise visitors with a live performance.
