Bored of your wardrobe but too cash-poor to splash out on new clobber? The Islington branch of charity shop Fara hosts regular workshops teaching the basics of sewing. Take along a shirt, dress or anything else and you’ll learn how to jazz up your clothes by shortening hems, adding collars and stitching buttons.
Beginners will be taught how to create a simple purse, while classes for budding Vivienne Westwoods cover how to embroider, backstitch and chain stitch. Alternatively purchase something vintage or bespoke from one of their shops; there are over 30 in the Greater London area and profits are used by the charity to help disadvantaged children in Romania.
