Watch Some Gory Pre-Anesthetic Surgery

This must try is connected to: Old Operating Theatre Museum

We take it for granted how simple surgery can be these days, which is why the Old Operating Theatre is always a good day out. It reminds us of the terrible conditions back in ye olde London, when a septic wound could mean the end of you. To make sure we know just how much modern surgery has progressed, the Old Operating Theatre re-enacts the gory operations of the late 18th and early 19th Centuries. A time before anesthetics. A time when amputation was favoured above attempting internal procedures for fear of infection.

Reenactments are held every Saturday at 2pm in the Old Operating Theatre – best to eat lunch afterwards.
