“The Future Is Now!” – this is probably the most popular mid-20th century’s slogan inviting people to a thrilling adventure of the future experience in the emerging industrial world. Life was constantly getting better because the technology, science and inventions have accelerated at progressive rate. The future was knocking at our door along with technological revolution. Everything has gone ‘mega’: mega cities, massive industrial parks, conquer of the space, invention of the television, computers and the internet that took over the world of our minds, growth of the economy has boosted consuming at enormous level.

Progress continues and the present still looks like in a futuristic movie, but the image of it unfortunately is not so bright. Every action has a consequence. Pollution, shortage of food and water, overpopulated cities, wars and a huge economic crisis show the consequences of our harmful actions in the past. Interpretation of the last century’s most popular slogan was probably wrong.

This photo project of London industrial landscapes invites the spectator to rethink the meaning of the slogan “The Future Is Now!” and look at that future from the different perspective. Inspired by the ideas and visuals of most classic anti-utopian sci-fi movies, Imantas Selenis examines the relationship between growing urban and natural environments, and 'draws' the images of metaphorical future London – urban desert, as a result of our industrial era decay.
