BERNARD CHAUCHET CONTEMPORARY ART is proud to present its latest selling exhibition: WHITE SPIRIT an exhibition by MATEO VENANCIO.

Born in 1965, Mateo Venancio started his career as a freelance interior designer, before studying at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Montpellier and a stay at the Goldsmith College in London (1992).

He then left for East Germany and Berlin to execute a series of performances with TNC for Unterkunst Berlin, against violence and racism, after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Since his return in 1993, his time has been divided between Interior design work and painting, assisting periodically Vincent Bioules, realising paintings and commissions and exhibiting in France (Galerie Yves Faurie, Sete) and London.

In the words of Vincent Bioules, one of France’s most established contemporary painters “the work of Mateo Venancio represents an outlook on existence, which he begins. Thus, this art of painting is nothing but an art of living, ironic, sometimes tender or modest. Its jokey and distant frivolity allows the viewer, who wants to enter its world, a new breath and a state of weightlessness. The characters, borrowed from the world of fairy tales and comic strips – icons or signposts – signify our own frailty and carve out our wandering path in a mysterious universe where without pain, with tenderness almost, we find ourselves queried on our choices and destiny.”
