On 3 June 2013, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) return to the Royal Festival Hall, to pay homage to the “cosmically gifted”* mezzo-soprano Lorraine Hunt Lieberson.
Noted for her dramatic vocal ability, as well as her commitment to baroque performance, Lieberson worked closely with the OAE at Glyndebourne and on CD, and was the inspiration for the Orchestra’s series Queens, Heroines and Ladykillers, celebrating feisty female roles in opera & the singers who perform them. This final tribute concert features the Handel arias Lieberson was revered for, here performed by three rising young opera stars Stéphanie d’Oustrac (pictured), Anna Stephany and Renata Pokupić & conducted by baroque specialist William Christie.
A powerful finale to the OAE’s 2013 season and a fitting tribute to an inimitable performer.
